Marine Engines
Diesel engines are the primary driver of marine vessels. Typically, these engines combust fuel oil containing 3.5% sulfur at sea. Lower fuel sulfur concentrations of 0.1% are required near ports. The exhaust from these engines contains sulfur dioxide and particulate from the fuel oil.
The International Maritine Organization, which oversees the marine industry, has gradually restricted sulfur dioxide emissions. Major shipbuilding companies have begun installing sulfur dioxide scrubbers onboard ships, with the added benefit of some particulate capture.
Envitech is a leader in the marine scrubber industry. We have provided several packed bed scrubbers treating marine diesel engine exhaust and consistently met 99% or greater removal efficiencies for SO2.
